/ Upper Rogue Cal Ripken / Boys Major Teams / Marlins / Game Reports - April

Game 2 VS D-rays 4/5/2004

After a rocky start to the season on Saturday when the Marlins lost 17-3 to the White Sox, they rebounded with a thriller on Monday night beating the Devil rays 11-8.

The game was a close call all night, being a very defensive game, with the score at 4-3 advantage Devil Rays heading into the 5th.

Suddenly the Marlins caught a break as they managed to load the bases a few times, and riding a magnificent triple from Matt, and ended up by going through the entire batting order to take the score to 11-4 advantage Marlins.

heading into the 6th it looked like a comfortable win for the Marlins with just 3 outs needed to finish the game, but the Devil Rays came out swinging, and after a couple of batter walks and base hits had all bases loaded, and managed to take the score to 11-8 with 2 outs and the tie-ing run at home plate.

After a pitching change, Chris took the mound and managed a 3 strike out on the tie-ing run and sent the Marlins to Victory.

Our next game is on Saturday April 10th at 2.00 P.M vs the Mariners, who also had a rocky opening day. It promises to be a great game.

 Game 3

Saturday April 10th 2004, Marlins 14- Mariners 4

The Marlins continue to improve in all aspects of their game and gave an excelent performance against the Mariners on Saturday.

Robert pitched some great innings for the team, including a no hitter 3 strike out effort. Robert also came up big with his batting, with the game tied at 4 runs a piece at the top of the third, Robert hits a triple, and at his next at bat produced a double to help seal the fate of the Marlins.

Other great performances were from Chris and Matt who both handed down doubles and Kris wowed the crowd with an in the park Homer to add to the score.

During the 3rd Innings the team went right through the batting order and was in its second run before the Mariners bought the at bat to a close with 3 outs.

Our hats off to the Mariners who fought a tough game, but ultimately were defeated due to the outstanding batting performance at the top of the third, and the close out batting in the 4th.

Our next game is Tuesday against the D-Backs, where hopefully the Marlins can continue to improve their game and reel in another win for the team.

A Tale of Two Games From The Marlins !!

April 16th Vs (the Previously Undefeated) Dodgers.. Marlins 5 - Dodgers 2

What an absolute thriller of a game, in the cold wet night air at the fields, the Marlins man of the night was Robert who pitched a no hitter in this dogfight of a baseball game. The dodgers were trying everything they could to overcome the pitching of Robert, but to no avail.

An all round good game was handled by the entire Marlins team, with the Dodgers runs only coming from an error and a walk.

April 20th Vs The Reds

Marlins 19 - Reds 13

Unlike the Dodgers game, this time the Marlins came out flat right from the get go. It appeared that the last few games had worn on the team and they were staring down the barrel at a very nasty loss. Fielding & pitching mistakes cost the Marlins dearly in the early running, and by the time we came out to bat in the bottom of the 3rd we were down 11-6 and looking like we had nowhere to go but home. Nothing seemed to be going our way, muffed catches, missed balls, poor throws, it looked like our first game revisited.

In the 4th however the tide started to turn, with the Reds being retired with no runs scored and our pitching and fielding improving, our next at bat bought the game to a tie heading into the 5th all square at 11 a piece.

Matt had a huge night, both on the mound, where he pitched 5 straight innings, and at bat where he went 5 for 5 on the night reeling in some big hits and helping the cause. Steven also had a good night at bat handing the team some RBI's, along with Shane & Chris.

Once again the Marlins went through the batting order, having done that in 4 out of our 6 games played, and that eventually became the back breaker for the reds, who couldnt overcome our late innings hitting and base running. They did pull back 2 in the bottom of the 6th, and were looking very much like there was a fight on,  but the came up short and couldnt pull out the comeback, leaving the game 19-13 Marlins.

Our next 4 games in a row are against the Braves who are a strong team, and it promises to be an interesting 10 days.
